NFB Potomac Chapter Meeting
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. and 15 people were present, including two Silver Bells participants. The icebreaker question was, Are you going to the national convention? The Silver Bells participants shared their experiences participating in last month's weekend retreat.
The minutes from the March 10 meeting were approved without correction.
The treasurer's report was approved. Current balances are $1,865.89 in the general fund and $1,750.00 in the youth fund.
The Pampered Chef event was a success. In May, Pampered Chef is doubling all donation percentages for fund-raisers. Total sales are over $1,600, meaning the chapter will receive almost $500. If we continue the party into May, we can get a 30% contribution. The online sales portal will be available through April 30.
It was suggested to have a bake-off or cookoff event after the Pampered Chef party.
The chapter conducted elections and the following individuals were elected:
President: Christine Grassman
First Vice-president: Deepa Goraya
Second Vice-President: Nancy Yeager
Recording Secretary: Julie McGinnity
Corresponding Secretary: John Halverson
Treasurer: Arielle Silverman
Board Members: Patty Droppers, LeRoy Hansen, and Sean McMahon.
Christine will serve as the delegate and John Halverson will serve as the alternate delegate.
The affiliate will have a board meeting on Saturday May 7 in Richmond. Train options are limited. If interested in going in person, please RSVP to Joe Orozco by April 20. If you RSVP, you are expected to pay even if you do not end up attending.
It was moved and seconded to give $100 to each of the NFB national funds: White Cane, TenBroek, Sun, Jernigan, and NFB Camp.
We are seeking volunteers for committees. Deepa Goraya will chair the social and special programs committee. We are also seeking volunteers for the membership, fund-raising, and constitutional review committees.
Christine announced that there have been some recent changes to Metro faregates making them less accessible, such as gates not making noise when opening or closing too quickly. Bridget Doherty, who works with Metro, is involved with this situation and she will be speaking at the April 21 Fairfax chapter meeting.
Christine reviewed some highlights from the latest presidential release:
* President Riccobono said some people have had trouble booking hotel rooms for the national convention due to a technical issue.
