Good morning everyone:
It is a fine day for thinking about your strengths, skills, and interests. Most days are, in fact, but I’ve chosen this one to ask you about yours. Please take the time to consider and answer, otherwise I’ll feel like I’m talking to myself, and even though I do that a lot and Gary and the cat think I’m nuts, it’s still cool to get a response now and then, especially when I’m not actually talking to myself.
So . . . I’ve appointed Deepa Goraya as Chair of our Social and Special Chapter Activities Committee: This will involve putting together both “just because we are awesome and like spending time with each other” activities, fund-raising activities, chapter meeting programs, activities and speakers, etc. If you have ideas, let Deepa know. Better yet, if you have ideas and want to help Deepa bring them to fruition, let her know, or reach out to me.

Nancy Yeager is our Membership Committee Chair. This committee is responsible for keeping the membership list updated, ensuring that people who wish to be added to our email list are added, member outreach, member engagement, etc. Again, if you have ideas or would like to assist Nancy, please reach out:

At the last chapter meeting, we discussed taking a look at our chapter constitution, last updated seven years ago, to decide whether changes might be warranted. If you would like to chair or be on this committee, please reach out to me.
We are also going to embark on efforts to praise venues for accessibility of their web sites and the venues themselves, or work to make various venues more accessible: museums, theaters, tours, etc. If you would like to be on this Accessibility and Special Projects Committee, let me know. I’ve got a few individuals interested in serving on this committee, but no one has come forth as wishing to chair it. Co-chairs are often a great idea for the committees (most of them) that have heavier lifting. You may serve on multiple committees if you know you can commit and contribute effectively.
The last committee is a Press and Public Outreach Committee. I would like this committee to put together a master list of local individuals, publications, legislators who represent our member districts (local, state, and national). This committee might also perform outreach to those on this list to publicize Meet the Blind Month activities, chapter events, issues we are working on, etc.
If you wish to be on this committee, please reach out.
If you have other ideas for committees, or want to share your thoughts on a project for a particular committee named above, don’t keep it to yourself. Give it here.
I look forward to a barrage of requests to jump on one or more of these committees and build the Potomac Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Virginia.
Christine
