Hello Friends,

Below and attached are questions developed by Nancy and me regarding this book. We were unable to find any commercially available book club questions.

Questions for Eugenics book

1. Why did eugenics become a large issue in the early 20th century?
2. What was feeble minded and how was it assessed?
3. How did the work of Gregor Mendel influence eugenics in the United States?
4. Why was Carrie Buck's case considered excellent for judicial review?
5. How did the great depression and the New Deal begin to reduce the interest in Eugenics?
6. Did Carrie  receive  competent legal representation?
7. What  did you know about Oliver Wendell Holmes work on the Supreme Court?
8. Why do you believe sterilization continued until the 1970s?
9. over the  twentieth century, how have the expression of personal traits changed from nature to nurture? Are notions of the causes of traits changing today?
10. Virginia was the last state to end sterilization.  What if anything does that say about VA?
11. How are political conditions today similar to those in the 1920s? How are they different?
12. NFBV member, Marion McDonald was sterilized in the late 50s or early 60s, not because she was epileptic, feeble-minded, or for any of the reasons that the proponents used in the past.  VA did it for her husband, Mack, to work in the Workshop.  Thoughts?
13. Could sterilization for eugenic reasons return?
14. Do you recommend  this book for others?
