MINUTES OF THE WINCHESTER CHAPTER OF THE N.F.B.

May 20, 2023

The meeting was called to order by Vice President James Shobert, at

10:07 AM. including members and guests, there were fifteen folks

present .

James Shobert asked for a few moments of silence, in honor of James

Walker. Considering what he meant to us and his service to the

Chapter, everyone complied.

We were happy to welcome Al Frapollo, Ed Kilday, Rodney Neely, Gwen

Moran, and Gwen's Daughter Kim Degroo . We hope these folks join our

Chapter.

James Shobert led our members in the NFB Pledge.

The Ice-Breaker this month, was to tell what our plans were for

Memorial Day.

At this point Chris made an announcement. He said that with his

Husband Jim passing away, he needed some time to get settled into his

new life. He said he would not run for Chapter President this Fall,

as he couldn't promise to spend the time to do the job it required.

He did want to continue as our Outreach Committee chairman. We

assured him we understood, and wished him well.

Next, Jacki Brown was nominated to take the position of Chapter

Treasurer. The vote was overwhelmingly in her favor. As Treasurer,

Jacki should begin receiving all checks, funds and chapter bank and

financial reports for all our accounts.

She started her job by reminding us that our Chapter dues were due,

and she would collect them from folks at the end of the meeting. Then

she gave a Treasurers Report that covered from November 2022, through

April 2023. That took some time and some explanations, but it was

approved.

Then Ed Kilday read the minutes of the previous meeting. They were

approved as read.

Chris gave a report on last month's State Board meeting. We learned

that this year's State Convention will be held in Williamsberg. It

will be on the first weekend of November. A lively discussion broke

out about transportation and what expenses the Chapter covered.

Briefly, we cover all registration fees, all room reservations,

transportation and some (but not all) of the food expenses

The membership was encouraged to think about attending the convention

and letting everybody know so we can better plan this trip.

James Shobert gave a Communications Committee report. He reminded us

that most of the Chapter Committees had only the Chairman as members.

Since Carolyn Ziziera had to resign, that meant his committee was of

the same number. Anyone willing to join one of these committees, was

encouraged to do so.

Wayne Williams gave a Technology Committee Report. He was busy

helping folks and helping with the State Zoom program.

Rodney asked if we had ever heard of a program named Be-My-Eyes. We

told him we had and Chris had even gave it a try. He said they have

upgraded their organization, and have put out a podcast about what

they are doing. We agreed that this might be the time to look at

again. Rodney said he would discuss this with Wayne and see if they

could get a Zoom presentation for folks who wanted to learn more about

the program.

A discussion about the venue for our Summer Luncheon began. Last year

we had it at Glory Days. A motion was made and seconded that we would

hold this event on our meeting day in August, instead of having a

normal meeting. The motion passed, and we would decide on the rest of

these plans at future meetings.

The meeting adjourned at around 11:30 AM.

Respectively submitted,

Jim Green

Recording Secretary
