✨ Special Edition: Member to Member Monday! ✨
This week we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on Angela Bambrey of our Winchester Chapter — one of just two Virginians selected for the U.S. Women’s Blind Cricket Team! 🏏🇺🇸
Angela has been married to her high school sweetheart for 21 years, is mom to three busy teenagers, and just recently discovered her love of blind cricket. What started as a leap of faith (“I didn’t even know the rules when I first tried it!”) has now turned into an opportunity of a lifetime: representing the United States on the international stage.
Angela’s story is one of resilience and determination. She lost her vision at 17 due to Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, but instead of letting that stop her, she made a decision: “I could sit on the couch and do nothing for the rest of my life, or I could go out and live it.” From pursuing college and massage therapy, to grabbing the chance to play sports again, Angela has always chosen to live boldly.
When she found out she made the national team? She admits she teared up. “All the women on the team are amazing. To be accepted into that group — it meant so much to me.”
Angela and her teammates will soon travel to India to compete, facing teams from across the globe. Beyond the competition, she’s excited to experience the culture, meet other blind athletes from around the world, and proudly represent Virginia and the NFBV.
