Already, Community Transit in Snohomish County is cutting Sunday service.
Pierce Transit is looking at cuts of up to 60% by next year without new
revenue. Whatcom Transit will be forced to cut another $4 million over the
next year in order to remain above water despite nearly $2 million in cuts.
King County Metro has already raised fares and used its reserves to plug
significant budget gaps this year. But revenues are continuing to decline
and large service cuts are looming.

But hope is not lost! Right now the Legislature is considering a bill that
would provide transit agencies with temporary funding sources to stave off
immediate cuts.

House Bill 2855 will:

*	Authorize transit agencies to enact a temporary $20 per year vehicle
license fee during times of economic distress, providing agencies with an
alternative to drastic service cuts.

*	The authorization for a $20 fee would expire at the end of 2014.

*	The legislation establishes a statewide plan that will guide future
investments in public transportation. The joint transportation committee of
the House and Senate will convene a panel of interested stakeholders to
propose a statewide blueprint to create a long-term sustainable plan for
statewide investments. The blueprint will also establish a plan to
significantly improve connectivity between transit agencies.
