However, "works" is a relative thing. I've seen all-too-many cases in which
people complain that web sites aren't accessible but the problem was that
web development had come up with constructs that older versions of JAWS did
not understand and therefore did not know how to interpret.

That depends on what you do with a computer?   What applications do you use?

If you do a little e-mail, a little on the web etc., then probably NVDA will
do fine.  It is free.
