Does that mean the ACB is better? I thought the NFB was very proactive at
reinforcing braille and other accessible materials.

We can hope that this is an error on somebody's part. I see some info about
the OTC on the web site but don't see the handbook, but I didn't look very
hard.
Have you made a clear and formal request for the handbook in alternative
media? It would be interesting to do so, and then to follow up if you don't
get it.
Since I'm here, I have to recount my experience with the two organizations
of the blind many years ago. I was deciding which, if either, I would join,
so I wrote identical letters to both and asked for a braille response. From
the Council I got a responsive, well-written, personal answer to my
questions in braille. From the Federation I got an impersonal packet of
print material. Sort of makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Hi Debby,
You are not crazy for expecting materials from DSB to be in an accessible
format. Since you specifically asked for materials in an accessible format,
it is not only annoying and inappropriate, it is against the law! I was
going to say that I can't believe they did this, but I guess it doesn't
really surprise me.

Hello all. I don't post much here on do list except to reply to
messages, since currently I'm part of the other organization, and
kind of feel like I shouldn't, but I'm ticked and I guess I need
a reality check. Last Thursday I went to see my DSB counselor.
I am thinking of going to the OTC (but am also thinking of going
elsewhere) it's a matter of funding for the other place). But
anyway, at the end of my conversation I said, Oh yeah, and please
ask them to send any information about the OTC in an accessible
format. I think it's crazy to get a bunch of printed material
from an agency that serves blind folks in print." She agreed.
So much to my disappointed and indignation yesterday I received a
packet of information. Some of it was print that needed to be
filled out by me. That in itself is rather inconvenient, to say
the least, but almost all applications, etc. are in print.
However they sent me a 55-page print document, The Residential
Student Handbook. Okay, I would be a residential student. I
would assume that I am responsible for knowing and adhering to
the contents of that handbook. But did I receive it in a format
that I would be able to access? No. They should, at the very
least, in my ever so humble opinion, have a link to the Student
Handbook online. So I just want to know, am I crazy to expect
such respect from an agency serving blind folks? I'd really like
to know what! you all think. Peace, Debby
