MARINERS, PUBLIC FACILITIES DISTRICT ANNOUNCE IMPROVEMENTS TO SAFECO FIELD
TO ENHANCE ACCESSIBILITY FOR ALL FANS
Two-year plan to improve ballpark access to fans of all abilities
The Seattle Mariners and the Washington State Major League Baseball Stadium
Public Facilities District today announced a two-year plan to enhance
accessibility
features at Safeco Field to improve accessibility for individuals with
disabilities.
The action plan is designed to address a checklist of architectural items,
such as handrail placement, counter heights and door widths, and to improve
the experience of our fans with disabilities by providing additional
training to team personnel who work directly with our fans, and by providing
new information
on the team's website to prepare for and enjoy a visit to Safeco Field.
"The Mariners and PFD are committed to ensuring that Safeco Field is
accessible to as many fans as possible. We appreciate the assistance of
Washington
Civil & Disability Advocate and Disability Rights Washington during the
review and formulation of our action plan. Their vigilance and insight have
been
invaluable throughout the process," said Trevor Gooby, Seattle Mariners Vice
President of Ballpark Operations.
The checklist of items was prepared as part of a comprehensive site survey
by certified accessibility specialists.
Phase I projects will be completed by the end of 2017 and Phase II by the
end of 2018.
