Today at approximately 3:50 pm Pacific Time NFB President Mark Riccobono will throw out the first pitch at the Baltimore Orioles baseball game. The Orioles are honoring the NFB for having our headquarters in Baltimore for 40 years and raising. We have hosted community events at the Jernigan Institute and many of our members in Baltimore are involved in civic activities. This event will help raise awareness about the NFB and the capabilities of blind people. The first 15,000 fans at the game will receive a braille alphabet card and the Orioles will wear jerseys with braille on thee back.
There are a few options for watching/listening to the first pitch. The game is broadcast on 105.7 The Fan. You may be able to listen online or on the TuneIn or OO Tunes apps. There will also be a live Facebook feed of the first pitch at 3:50 pm. For that, just search for the National Federation of the Blind Facebook page. There is also a link to that activities at https://www.mlb.com/news/orioles-to-host-national-federation-of-the-blind-night-on-september-18/c-293427138 <https://www.mlb.com/news/orioles-to-host-national-federation-of-the-blind-night-on-september-18/c-293427138>.. If you have the MLB At Bat Audio subscription they sometimes start the game broadcast during pre-game activities. Later today the authenticated game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off by the Orioles and Major League Baseball as a fundraiser for the NFB. The auction can be found at https://orioles.auctions.mlb.com/iSynApp/allAuction.action?sid=1102343&promoGroupList%5b0%5d.strValue1=BALCHARITY&rc=25 <https://orioles.auctions.mlb.com/iSynApp/allAuction.action?sid=1102343&promoGroupList[0].strValue1=BALCHARITY&rc=25>. Authenticated game-worn jerseys, especially unique ones like this, sometimes sell for hundreds of dollars through these auctions..
Several people have asked about buying jerseys (not the ones from tonight). At this point I have not heard anything about that. I will post something if that happens.
Let’s play ball and let’s go build the National Federation of the blind!
