I am sad to report the death of West Virginia radio personality Loray
Robinson. Even if you never heard her on the air, Federationists around the
state will remember her as the DJ for the dances at recent conventions in
Morgantown and Bridgeport. She was also quite helpful over the years in
publicizing a variety of Federation events in the Morgantown-Clarksburg
area.

I got to know her twenty years ago during a brief stint of part-time work at
WAJR in Morgantown and always knew her to be both friendly and professional.
Her death certainly comes as a shock.

Here is the story from the WV MetroNews website:

Radio Personality Passes Away
Morgantown, WV

Long-time West Virginia Radio Corporation personality Loray Robinson has
died.
Robinson, 53, was a fixture on the radio in Morgantown and Clarksburg for
years as "Midday Loray."

The Morgantown native began her career in broadcasting as a news intern with
WAJR. When WVAQ went on the air in 1981, Robinson was hired for the 10a-3p
shift where she stayed for more than 20 years.

As her popularity increased, Robinson was frequently requested for remote
broadcasts. She also deejayed hundreds of events, including dances, parties
and weddings.

Known for her melodic voice and infectious personality, Robinson established
herself as one of the premiere radio talents in West Virginia.

Later in her career, she transferred to WWLW, Magic 106.5, in Clarksburg,
also a West Virginia Radio Corporation station, where she continued in the
midday spot.

WVRC President Dale Miller said the company has lost a "family member."

"Her smile and laugh were contagious," Miller said. "She was a valued
friend to thousands of listeners every day for more than 30 years. She will
be missed by all."

WVAQ program director Lacy Neff worked with Robinson for years and
remembered her as a special talent.

"She was like a ray of light," Neff said, "always positive and professional.
She had a genuine interest in people. She would do anything she could to
brighten your day."

Robinson passed away at her home near Morgantown Tuesday.
