We are very sad to report the death of Charlie Ploss who had been a member of our organization in the past.  

 

Charles Henry Ploss

Feb. 26, 1934 - Feb. 8, 2014

 

Charles Henry Ploss, 79 ,  of Romney, WV,  died Saturday, February 8, 2014  at  Missouri City,    Texas.  Charles was born on February 26, 1934 in War, West Virginia, the  son of the late Ansel and Adeline  (Rose)  Ploss.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his dear wife Wanda June (Thomas) Ploss  on August 14, 2012.

 

Charles attended the WV School for the Blind from 1942 until his graduation in 1953.  He went on to graduate from Bluefield State College, Bluefield, WV with a Bachelor Degree in Social Studies.  He earned his Masters in Special Education Vision from Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, TN and did graduate work at WVU and other universities.  Charles taught at the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind, Romney, WV for 24 years.  He was Director of Student Living for the School for the Blind for 8 ½ years and did volunteer work as well.  After retiring he did substitute teaching for the WV School for the Blind and Hampshire County Schools.  Charles was an active member of the Romney Lions Club, the Gideons, the Hampshire County Retired School  Employees and the Church of God.  Everyone loved seeing Charles ride his horse "JJ" around town.  He always had a joke for them.    

 

Surviving are: one Brother:  Jack Ploss and wife, Margaret Ann, League, City, Texas; three Sisters:  Margaret Leonhardt and husband, Leroy, Texas City, Texas,  Hazel Hicks, Missouri City, Texas and Doris Morehead and husband, Ronald, Lake Suzy, FL and many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.

 

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV  on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 5-7 p.m.  The funeral service will be Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Shaffer Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m.  with Rev. Noah King of Azie, Texas and Rev. Raymond J. Sterling of the Romney Church of God officiating.  Interment will follow at Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV.  Memorials may be made to the Hampshire County Gideons, PO Box 240, Romney, WV  26757.

 

Serving as Pallbearers are Rick Bramer, Tim Bramer, Greg Ploss, Gerald Bissett, Harold Nealis and Gary Bowman.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Ansel Ploss, Michael Patterson, Bill McMichael, Michael Armstrong, Claude Wray and Sid Moore.
