Gift Card lottery

January is National Braille Literacy month, so considering planning now to host a celebration party, such as a chili cook-off or a spaghetti fundraising dinner.

Gift card lotteries can be a year-round fund-raising opportunity. Simply ask local businesses (including national chains) to donate gift cards for all types of supplies and services, from restuarants to department stores, from camping stores to gas stations. Gather the gift cards and place one or more gift cards in each envelope, and the minimum total face value of those cards will be twenty-five dollars, though some should contain higher total amounts. Number each envelope and cerate a corresponding lottery ticket. At the party, guests may purchase a lottery ticket for one envelope for twenty dollars (five dollars less than the minimum gift card amount in every envelope). In this manner, you can raise funds and provide your guests with great value for their donation.

Antiphon fortissimo (a repeated phrase very loud)

Please complete your Affiliate information forms as soon as possible

As discussed at each NFB BELL Academy Training Seminar this fall, we encourage each affiliate to complete the affiliate's FAQ information web form<https://nfb.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=6200&qid=1509403> as soon as you have determined dates and other important information regarding your NFB BELL Academy. Completion of this form triggers the automatic creation of an NFB BELL Academy FAQ (frequently asked questions) page for your affiliate. Additionally, completion of this form provides us the information needed to allow parents to apply to your BELL Academy when the application process opens in January. Please note that your online NFB BELL Academy application process will not be enabled until the affiliate's FAQ information web form<https://nfb.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=6200&qid=1509403> is submitted.

You may check out the 2017 FAQ pages created to date using these links:

Finding your NFB BELL Academy home

Finding a location suitable for the needs of NFB BELL Academy can be stressful. Child-sized furniture, access to kitchen facilities, transportation accessibility, parking availability, and playgrounds are just a few factors to consider.

NFB Board members, affiliate president, and NFB BELL Academy coordinator Carla McQuillan has found that Montessori schools are often excellent places to hold an NFB BELL Academy. Our philosophy of student-centered learning in a high-expectations environment mirror that of Montessori.

Please find this Dropbox link to the "Dear Montessori School Director" letter<https://nfb.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=6205&qid=1509403> which Carla has written. Carla has also indicated her willingnesss to communicate directly with Montessori school directors on your behalf. Please contact Carla directly for more information at president at nfb-oregon.org<mailto:president at nfb-oregon.org>.

NFB One Minute Message

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
