[Nfbwv-talk] Can you identify a marked cross walk?

Hi Jack!

Many thanks for the explanation.

It makes sense to me. Those traction bumps are certainly what we look for.

I certainly appreciate your advice is solid. I once had someone attempt to
climb my cane in a wheelchair in the corridors of the old WV Rehab centre.
Probably shouldn't show my age, but there you go. *lol*

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave,

These are very common (marked crosswalks). In my town, every intersection
of at least two streets (not alleyways, avenues, etc.) has crosswalks marked
with parallel lines or zebra hatchings. They usually terminate in small
ramps with traction bumps for wheel chairs. In my experience, most drivers
ignore them and are more than happy to wait within their boundaries for the
light to change or simply drive over your white cane. I have walked into
the side of some of the quieter vehicles or been nearly run down while
crossing within them. Be careful!

Hi all!

I didn't think these existed, but guess I missed a lesson.

How does a blind person identify one of these? Are they ever marked with
tactile tiles?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers,
Dave
