Dear Fellow Federationists,

I am writing to the NFBWV discussion list as well as to chapter members to let you know that Matt Hackert, NonVisual Access Technology Specialist at our National Center in Baltimore, will be the featured speaker during the next meeting of the NFBWV Members at Large Chapter. The meeting takes place via the Zoom conferencing platform on Sunday, January 12, at 4:00 PM. The usual Zoom contact information appears at the bottom of this message.

Mr. Hackert has been the key staff person doing follow-up work on access issues concerning the Learning Ally reading app known as "Link." As you know, problems with this app--along with concerns about Learning Ally's perceived shift of priority away from its blind readers--was the subject of a resolution endorsed by the Members at Large Chapter and adopted during the 2019 NFB National Convention. Mr. Hackert will discuss our ongoing effort with Learning Ally to address these concerns.

Chapter members are, of course, invited to participate in this meeting, but all interested Federationists from other chapters are welcome to join us as well. As time permits, I am sure Mr. Hackert will also respond to questions regarding other blindness-related technology matters that may be of interest to our members. This promises to be an interesting and informative meeting, and I hope many of you will be able to join us.

Minutes for our December meeting will be distributed to chapter members prior to Sunday's meeting.

Cordially,

Ed

If you are a "power user" of the iPhone, or if you have a computer equipped with a microphone, I encourage you to download and install the free Zoom app. It will make joining the meeting easy and convenient. Otherwise, call in using one of the phone numbers below and then enter the meeting ID. Here are a few more Zoom details:

If you are using the Zoom app on a mobile phone, click on the "Join Zoom Meeting" link, and you should be connected directly. If you join by placing a standard cell phone call, click on the "One Tap Mobile" link, and it should automatically dial the number and enter the meeting ID.

Otherwise, if you join by using any other type of phone, dial any of the numbers listed below and enter the nine-digit meeting ID when prompted. It really doesn't matter which phone number you use.

As we continue to use this platform, the process should become more and more intuitive. Meanwhile, if you have questions, don't hesitate to call me at 304-788-0129. What follows is the standard Zoom message containing all of the essential contact information.
