To All Interested In Viewing or Listening to the Assembly Session:
If you are interested in watching or listening to the New Jersey Legislature Assembly Session on January 6, 2014 at 1 PM to follow the voting on Dusty’s Law A4105/S1907, open the following link: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/
When this page opens, go down to the Senate and Assembly Rooms. The Live Proceedings title is next and you would then click on the “View or Listen to Live Proceedings” link. The last step would be to click on the Assembly Session link and you should start to hear the session. If they are taking any breaks, there may be silence for a short time.
The descriptions have been how JAWS would find the text and if you are visually seeing the screen, the descriptions may be different.

All:
FYI,
Everyone is able to follow the Legislative Schedules on the NJLeg website I have been referring to for a long time now. The 2012-2013 Bills has a link to show the Senate and Assembly Schedules. This gives the committee and general sessions. In this schedule for December 19th, you would see many bills with their numbers and an abstract column which gives somewhat of the title. Looking down the list, you would notice in the bills beginning with A4023 that the next number was A4136 which had skipped over A4105, Dusty’s Law.
Looking next at January 6th and January 13th of 2014, there are no listings as of the time I am writing this message. The text of the page says: “Voting Session: Board List to be announced”.
I found 2 other documents which would very much catch our interest. The amendments as described in a 2 page summary (1907_S2.pdf). The second document (1907_R1.pdf) is the one using the S1907 with the wording to include “Service Animal or Guide Dog” as I have shared with everyone since the December 6th of 2012 Senate Law and Public Safety Committee I attended for us. I have included the two documents. Let me know if you are unable to read the PDF formats.
We hopefully will find A4105, Dusty’s Law as Ginger noted on January 6 or January 13 of 2014. The link is: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/

All,
Unfortunately Dusty’s law did not make it on the supplemental list for Thursday. We have two more chances before end of session…we’ll all need to take action after the holidays.
Best,
Ginger

Ok, so then there really is no sense taking off of work on Thursday then.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Hi Trisha,
Committee meetings and voting sessions are open to the public. No advance arrangements are necessary to gain admission to the meeting rooms or the public galleries of the chambers.
Still no word if Dusty's Law will make it to the Assembly voting session on Thursday though. If it doesn't, we still have two more chances in January: there is a Voting Session on January 6 and on January 13.
If the bill is not posted by then, we would have to start all over again because the new Legislative Session begins January 14 at Noon.
Best,
Ginger

Vinny and all,
Thanks so much for all of your support! We’re hopeful that the bill will be voted on at the next Assembly meeting to be held Thursday, Dec. 19. It sure would be a wonderful Christmas present if Dusty’s Law were to be passed before year end!
It was encouraging to see how supportive the entire committee was – I was only asked one question before the hearing started. Two Assemblyman wanted to know if there was mandatory insurance for guide dogs.
Four Seeing Eye puppy raisers and family attended, including Roger Woodhour who was Dusty’s raiser; Lisa Yakomin who originally helped to get the bill drafted and posted; a woman from The Humane Society; and Pixie and me.
Best,
Ginger

FYI…
I received this Great News from Assemblyman Cryan who shared that the Assembly A4105 Dusty’s Law Bill had passed the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee this afternoon. I looked up on the NJ Legislature website and found that it was a total, unanimous 11-0 with no abstentions by the committee. I will watch for the next alert when the full house will be scheduled to vote on this bill.

Assemblyman Cryan,
Thank you very much for your response to Alice Eaddy’s message, a fellow New Jersey Association of Guide Dog Users member, referencing Assembly A4105, Dusty’s Law, and offering your positive support of this bill. I write to you as President of the New Jersey association of Guide Dog Users, the largest organized group of Guide Dog Users in New Jersey. The majority of our members have had at least one incident of attack while working with our canine partners. On December 6, 2012, I gave my testimony and presented copies from a number of other members to the NJ Senate Law and Public Safety Committee at their first hearing of Senate S1907, Dusty’s Law. I will attach my and another gentleman’s, who is a member, testimonies as examples. I had handed a fax testimony and had a group of the members directly email Senator Bucco their testimonies if these would be available as a resource should the total group of testimonies not have been presented to your committee through the Senate as indicated to me.
While I live in Old Bridge, I have traveled very much throughout our fine Garden State. I worked for many years in downtown NYC going through Journal Square on a daily basis until my employer, JPM Chase opened offices in the Newport facility. As I am now retired, I frequent New Brunswick, Newark, Morristown, Atlantic City, Cape May and Vineland to indicate some of the areas I and other guide dog users live in or travel to.
I and my fellow members of the NJ Association of Guide Dog Users thank you for scheduling the Thursday, December 12, 2013 hearing of A4105. We sincerely believe the committee and the full Assembly will understand the importance of Dusty’s Law and the vulnerable position we, the Guide Dog Users in New Jersey feel we are in without this. Calling our local police departments and finding out there is nothing they can do today to assist us with one of these episodes is heartbreaking.
