Subject: Tech problem connecting to braille printer

Hi Jane. Joe Ruffalo gave me your email as someone who can, hopefully, hook me up with the tech expertise I need.

I have 2 old braille printers that still work well. The problem is, they connect to a PC via parallel cable, and my Windows 7 PC only has USB ports. I bought a USB to parallel cable, and connected the printer to my PC.

I defined the printer as generic/text, and tried to print. Nothing. I tried defining the printer port as USB001, or as LPT1, and neither printed.

What I’d like to know is, which port should I define the printer to?

And, is there something I’ve missed in this setup?

I contacted the printer manufacturer, and they said they don’t support it anymore, goodbye.

I hate to throw out perfectly good printers, just because they connect in old ways.

Hope someone knows the answer.

Tracy Carcione
