Subject: [Njtechdiv] Verizon Text To Speech.
Hi All,
I wanted to give you an update. I have called verizon about their recently
announced Text To Speech option. Text-to-speech is now set up and running on
both of my tv sets.
While I was not able to enable it on my own because I don’t have sighted
assistance around, I was able to have Verizon send a technician to the house
to enable it.
Its very cool! Now, it will speak out loud, when I do a channel up/down or
punch in a direct station number and it will speak out loud to me the number
I’m going to, that stations name like cbs, pbs, qvc, tcm, etc, along with
the program that is on and the time it runs from/too.
I can also navigate the menus once I press the menu button and then
right/left arrow & up/down arrows.
Getting the Descriptive Video service (DVS) to broadcast still requires that
both DVS is either set to on/yes and also requires Spanish as the preferred
language. Since I can continue navigating the menus with Spanish on at least
now I can turn it back to English if I know there is a show on a station
that is broadcasting with the Spanish language option. I have yet to try
using the on Demand, DVS & Pay-Per View options but I have come across them
in the menus and are there waiting for further exploration.
Additionally, Verizon sent me aBraille manual on how the Text To Speech
works which honestly, doesn’t say that much. Once someone initially enables
text-to-speech and walks you through it its very easy and the instruction
manual doesn’t tell very much at all. And, they also sent me the TV lineup
in Braille of the tv stations I have with my package.
So between this and the ability to also view TV listings using the NFB
Newsline app I’m in TV heaven! Finally I have access to my television and
programming.
Eileen
