Gestures One Finger to Four Plus Last Updated September 2022
 
Note:  The majority of gestures work the same on devices with or without a home button except where noted*.  *gestures are for devices without a home button.
With the introduction of IOS 13, you now have the ability to reassign/customize gestures.
All gestures can be found under ‘Settings/Accessibility/Voice Over/Commands.’ 
Double tap the Touch item for gestures.  
 
 
Gesture
What it Does
One finger exploring with constant contact with the screen
Navigates and speaks information under the finger
One Finger tap
Navigates focus and speaks the item
One finger flick to the rightk
Moves focus item by item to the right
One finger flick to the left
Moves focus back item by item
One finger double tap
Activates/opens item
One finger double tap and hold or sometimes called a long press
Drags item, drag on slider control, Open aContext/ shortcut menu, etc.
One finger flick up/down
Cycles through picker list and/or action items
One finger touch status line as the focus and then single finger double tap
Jumps the focus quickly back to the top of a multiple scrolling page item(email, etc.).
One finger triple tap
Brings up context menu if available


Two finger tap
Pause/continue speech
Ex: Voice Over, email, etc.
Two finger double tap
Starts and stops the current action.Answer/hang up phone call, start/stop music, dictation, etc.
Two finger double tap and hold
Set custom label
Ex: Unlabeled button in- app or adding text to a photo image
Two finger triple tap
Opens the item chooser
Two finger quadruple tap
Rotor Quick settings
Two finger flick up
Reads the page starting at the top
Two finger flick down
Reads page beginning at selected/focused item position
Two finger ‘Z’ Scrub
Two finger swipe to the right and left bak and forth in a Z (takes practice
Exits current action/page, etc.
Two finger swipe left
Move out
Used in conjunction with VO navigation style set to group like the Mac.
Two finger swipe right
Move in
Used in conjunction with VO navigation style set to group like the Mac.


Three finger tap
Read item summary -
Position within a list, whether text is selected, additional information on a photo, etc.
Three finger double tap
Toggle speech on/off
Voice Over is still On, but speech is muted
Three finger triple tap
Toggle screen curtain on/off
Three finger quadruple tap
Copy last spoken text to the clip board
Three finger swipe right
Scroll left one page
Three finger swipe left
Scroll right one page
Three finger swipe down
Scroll up one screen
Three finger swipe up
Scroll down one screen
Focus on Status line and three finger swipe down
*One finger slide down from edge until second vibration/pop an lift finger
Brings up the Notification page
Focus on Status line and three finger swipe up
*One finger slide down from edge until first vibration/pop an lift finger
Brings up the Control Center
Home Screen and three fingers to the right
Brings up the Today Screen
Home Screen and three finger swipe down
Brings up Spotlight search


Four finger tap near top of screen
Move to the first item on screen
Four finger tap near bottom of screen
Moves to the last item on the screen
Four finger double tap
Toggle voice over help/practice on/off
Four finger swipe right/left while in an app
Switches to next/previous app without going to the app switcher(double click home button)


Double click Home button
Brings up the App switcher
*One finger slide up from bottom edge until first vibration/popn
Returns you to the home screen and suspend the current app into the app switcher
*One finger slide up from bottom edge until second vibration/popn
Brings up app switcher


Double back tap
And
Triple Back tap
You can customize this for a gesture if your device can support it.
