[NJTechDiv] JAWS cannot read a PDF in Acrobat

Some big documents take a while to open, and Jaws doesn't say anything while
they're opening. Sometimes hitting tab will say a percentage, but not
always.
But, today I opened a pdf, and all Jaws would say is "blank". I switched to
the Jaws cursor and looked around, and there was a free trial offer which
might have been covering the document. I had to close and open the file 3
times before it would read. I looked for the thing about new version that
was causing problems before, but it wasn't there.

Sometimes, if Jaws isn't reading, I do alt-e to go to Edit, arrow up to
Preferences, hit enter, choose Reading Preferences, and look to make sure
that the screen reader options are there. Sometimes that makes Jaws behave
better.

Subject: [NJTechDiv] JAWS cannot read a PDF in Acrobat

When pressing the enter key on a PDF file, it is opened in Acrobat but JAWS
remains silent.

By starting Acrobat and pressing the alt key does give me access to the
menubar and allows me to right arrow to the edit, view, and other menus.

What settings need to be adjusted in JAWS or adjustments need to be done to
Acrobat to display a PDF's contents so JAWS can read the text?

I can use Firefox and the Recognize with JAWS OCR feature to open the
contents of the PDF, but I'd prefer to use Acrobat.

Clear directions please.
