Hello ladies,
My name is Anita Adkins. I am so low vision that I really have no to little
usable vision so I just call myself blind. I am a braille user. Also, I am
almost 32 years old, and so I have a little experience in the job world. I,
too, am seeking a degree in education. I have an associate's degree in
early childhood/elementary education. I will begin at Frostburg State
University in Frostburg, MD in the fall to acquire a Bachelor's degree in
elementary ed with a specialization in language arts. I desire to teach
students who are blind in the future. I do have some experience teaching
skills of blindness mainly to seniors over the age of 55, but also to
sgtudents from around 6 years of age on up. Also, I have worked for a
company that produced multiple formats including Brailled statements and so
forth. Also, I have worked in a sewing factory. I would be greatful for
any experiences you can share regarding your student teaching experiences
and how you do different things. One technique I find helpful is rather
than having students raise there hands, I have them say there name. This
helps me to learn there voices and to identify them to answer questions. If
there are any other blind teachers on the list who has experience they are
willing to share, please feel free to contact me. I am looking for all of
the mentors I can acquire. My email address is aadkins7 at verizon.net. Have
a great day. Anita
