Hi Anita,
   God to hear from another person. You sound like you have a great
deal of experience with all of the areas that you are interested in
pursuing. I, too, have used the "announce yourself" technique. I've
found that students, at first, seem a bit hesitant but get the swing
of it by the end of the period. Any tips I can share, when I start
student teaching, i promise to pass along.
