[nobe-l] Quietly I introduce myself

Hope, I want to encourage you to go to college to become a teacher of the
visually impaired but I want to caution you that finding employment in the
field can be as difficult as finding any other teaching position. Most
TVI's are itinerant which means you will have to figure out transportation
from school to school. I also learned that directors of special education
do not believe a totally blind teacher can work with students who have
useable vision.
I am currently working at a school district as a TVI with 3 totally blind
students. I plan to also obtain my certification in special education so as
these students begin to leave school I will have needed job skills.
This is not to discourage you from reaching your goals but to share my
experience in the job search.
