[nobe-l] A question.

I'm a blind adult, but am studying to become a TVI. I think the most
important advice a teacher can give the parents of a blind child is to
1) let the child explore, explore, and explore. Blind children "see"
with their fingers, so let them look at things. 2) If your child does
not have enough vision to walk without stumbling over obstacles of any
kind (whether curbs, cracks, stairs, or something bigger), get O&M
training as soon as possible. The younger, the better. 3) If the child
can't read print comfortably, accurately, and without spending a
significant amount of extra time reading, the child should be reading
Braille. The child should get Braille training as soon as possible. If
possible, it should begin with exploration of Braille through Twin
Vision books as a toddler, as well as Braille labels on anything and
everything at home. The best tools a blind child can have are their
white cane and Braille. If they have those, all they need are
education and encouragement.

My two cents as a student (not a professional yet),
