[nobe-l] Introduction and Advice for Student Teaching

Hi Tara, 

Welcome to the list! While I mostly teach at the college level, I have done some middle school teaching. 

I’m sure you are planning to introduce yourself to the students. I would give them an opportunity to ask appropriate questions and understand your technologies and adaptations in the classroom. For example, I explain to my class each semester that I don’t require hand-raising because I can’t see raised hands. I explain that I’ll be recognizing voices not faces, and that students should say their name when they offer a comment or question. I find that being as open and direct as you are comfortable will help students understand how to interact with you.
