Hello:

There is a program called Perkyduck which is free from Duxbury. It is
essentially a brailler for a PC. It uses the sdf and jkl keys for inputing
braille. This program does not let the user cut and paste information.

Regards,

Robert

I use Duxbury to create my assignments. I enter everything manually using
the sdf and jkl keys. Doing otherwise defeats the purpose of taking the
course. I then save my files in a brf format and submit them
electronically. On my first assignment I sent the file as a dbt file and
the instructor kept saying that one of my inputs was wrong. I nearly lost my
mind arguing with the instructor because I knew it was right. I think the
braille display unit being used at their end caused a problem. Anyway,
using the brf format solved the issue. So, what I am saying here is to find
out what type of braille display device (note-taker or whatever) the
instructor may be using and be sure of the file format the device will
recognize without any errors.

I am currently completing the certification course to become a braille
transcriber through the National Federation Of The Blind under a contract
with the National Library Service For The Blind and Physically Handicapped.
This week I received an email containing the report on my first three
assignments. Even though I used the Perkins brailler to complete these,
they still contained errors. I am thinking about submitting my assignments
electronically for the rest of the course.
