Hello,

I am a 2nd and third grade teacher at my state school for the blind, and I have a student with no vision this year who is reading at grade level. He reads the stories out of our regular third grade curriculum textbook, and enjoys reading novels such as The Wild Robot. I would look at the state standards for third grade, and those would be the benchmarks for your student unless there is another disability, such as an intellectual disability. As far as braille, he needs to immediately begin learning contractions, since my student for the most part is fluent in reading and writing the code. Currently, he is working on writing multi paragraph responses, which is the expectation for a typical third grade student.

Thank you, Tara Mueller
