Hi Deanna!
I’ve got Brie on a high end Purina that has to be purchased at a pet store and it is a chicken and rice formula. I’ve kept her on it because she was on it while at GDA and my instructor encouraged me that, “if it ain’t broken then don’t fix it.” Back when Atwood was here I had him on Natural Balance because GDB was using that food and I thought it stunk! There is plenty of decent foods out there, but don’t switch without a good reason or unless you are unhappy with something.

Subject: [Oagdu] Considering a food switch.
Hi all,
I am considering a food switch with Mambo. When we first came home, he seemed to be doing alright on Natural Balance, but he would have a loose stool about once a day. So, I switched him to Purina One, and he did much better on it. He never has loose stools and also poops less frequently. The thing is however, recently the food has really started to smell yucky. It smells like vomit and turns my stomach. Of course, Mambo still loves it! I’ve noticed this stench with the last few bags I’ve purchased.
I know I hear all about the “cheaper” dog foods, but I’ve always had luck with Purina One. I wonder if they’ve changed the formula or what happened. So, I’m considering switching Mambo to a different food. He seems to be ok with the Lamb and rice formulas, so I’m looking for a brand comparable to Natural Balance. And also, maybe one that doesn’t stink! Maybe I can go to the pet store and open up all of the bags of dog food and smell them??? LOL
Or is this a silly reason to switch food, especially since he is doing very well on the Purina One?
Thanks!
Deanna and the boys
