Wouldn't the guide want to eat. If the person feeding their service animal allows their animal to eat in non residential settings. I know, I never fed my guides any food other than that recommended by the guide dog school. From which they were gotten.

Angel, I have no control over how anyone else handles their service animal. I know of people who have guide dogs from the same school I go to who feed their dogs in restaurants and other places even though we are told we should not do that. I wouldn't let my dog have anything to eat in the situation you described because once I start doing that the dog will expect to be fed in other places. I might make a comment but, in the end, each dog handler makes their own decision. If someone offers to feed my dog I thank them and tell them they wouldn't like the result. I learned that one because I had a dog who couldn't eat anything other than her dog food. She would get sick every time. That way the person who offered doesn't feel rejected either.

When I owned my guides, 40 years or more ago, there were no service animals. With which to deal. I work with my community college's students. One of whom brought with her a service dog to class. Another student brought pizza. For us all to share. The student with the service dog, allowed the dog to eat a slice of pizza. When I owned my guide dog, we were instructed never to allow them to eat food meant for human consumption, such as pizza, or other kinds of fast foods. and never to eat in such settings as are class rooms. In fact, my first guide never, so much as begged for food. If she was lying on the floor of a car. While I ate fast food. My question is this: How do you keep your dogs disciplined. If other dogs are eating food which is unhealthy for them to eat.

      Sabra,

I believe the reason the article does not say what ended up happening is because nothing yet has been determined. The article does state the service animal user has filed a temporary restraining order and the judge is weighing whether or not to issue a permanent injunction. We will be folowing this case, as it has the potential to create some case law for other issues we face, such as access to taxicabs and ridesharing companies whose drivers claim allergies to dogs.

Updated At 12 oh 5 AM.. Judge weighs sorority sisters' dispute over dog Judge weighs sorority sisters' dispute over dog The Associated Press COLUMBUS, Ohio . COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) A federal judge is deciding whether a dog trained to help an Ohio State University student during panic attacks can stay at her sorority house despite another student's allergy. The Columbus Dispatch reports the university ordered Madeleine Entine to remove her dog, Cory, from the Chi Omega sorority house because another resident complained that the dog inflamed her allergies and, in turn, her Crohn's disease. A school official determined that both students were protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the only solution was to allow the person who signed up for their room first to stay in the house. Entine filed a temporary restraining order against the university on Oct. 26. A judge is weighing whether to issue a permanent injunction allowing her and the dog to stay.
