The Golden Child
There are children all over the world who suffer low self-esteem, never feeling that they quite measure up to their parents’ expectations. Some kids want so desperately to please that they really do try hard, but no matter how much they try, never quite achieve the desired status of being the “golden child” and receiving the adoration they so desperately want to receive. It leaves them feeling discouraged, thinking that something must be wrong with them and they are not worthy of love. Some give up trying altogether and accept their lot in life as being just a “bad kid,” or a “problem child.” Author, Rebecca Eanes, writes, “So often, children are punished for being human. Children are not allowed to have grumpy moods, bad days, disrespectful tones, or bad attitudes, yet we adults have them all the time. None of us are perfect and we must stop holding our children to a higher standard of perfection than we can attain ourselves.” The truth is, no one is perfect, not children and not adults. God wants to see us strive to be more like Him, but when we slip and fall, he lovingly picks us up, dusts us off, and says, “You are My child and I love you.” Parents have a God-given responsibility to introduce their children to Jesus and the best way to do that is to paint them a beautiful picture of who He is through your words and actions. When children make a mistake, and say they are sorry, forgive and don’t keep bringing up past mistakes and rubbing their noses in it. God doesn’t do that to adult sinners and He doesn’t want children to endure that either. Instead, build confidence by encouraging them to do better in the future instead of reminding them of their failures. Bottom line–the best way to teach kids to love God is to be a living example by parenting with love. Remember that every child belongs to God and each one is His “Golden Child.” TEXT: Colossians 3:21, Colossians 4:6, Titus 2:7, 1 Peter 5:3

Bible Texts:
Colossians 3:21 NKJV - Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.

Colossians 4:6 NKJV - Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

Titus 2:7 NKJV - in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,

1 Peter 5:3 NKJV - nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock;
