He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

A Better View

Have you ever arrived at a hard place in life and looked back over the decisions you made in hopes of finding what you did (or didn’t do) wrong to cause your difficult circumstance? We live in a fallen world, and it’s full of trouble. Sometimes you find yourself in a painful situation that is absolutely no fault of your own. And when that happens, it’s important to step up higher to get a better view. 

The prophet, Elisha did everything right and still found himself in a tough situation (2 Kings 6:8-23). The king of Aram was at war with Israel, and he asked his men how the king of Israel stayed a step ahead of him. They informed him, “Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom.” Their words infuriated him, and the king of Aram plotted to capture Elisha (2 Kings 6:1-13). 

So, when Elisha got up and went out the next morning, along with his servant, the king of Aram’s army surrounded his city. Elisha’s servant asked fearfully what they were doing to do. Elisha’s response is our verse today.

He told his servant not to be afraid because more are with us than are against us. Then he prayed and asked God to open the servant’s eyes. God did as Elisha asked, and the servant was no longer afraid because he could clearly see the hills were full of an army of horses and chariots of fire surrounding the army of Aram.  

When you choose to come up to God’s higher perspective, you can see clearly He is on our side and there are more for us than against us, no matter what you’re facing. Allow faith to show you how God is doing more than you could ever see with your natural eyes.  

Today’s One Thing 

Ask God to give you a better perspective today. Choose to trust that He is at work, even if you can’t see those who are for you. He is always with you.
