Making Mistakes
No one is perfect! Everyone makes mistakes; even the smartest person can make wrong decisions. Children tend to blame it on someone else when they make a mistake and, the truth is, many adults do the same. Young and old alike make impulsive, irrational, and just plain bad decisions from time to time. That’s because of our human tendency to sin. There’s only one way to stay on the straight and narrow path and that is to hold on to Jesus. We need to pray for Holy Spirit power to resist temptation and to guide our actions. God has given us His Holy Word as an instruction book to avoid making foolish decisions. Proverbs 19:27 tells us, “Cease listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.” For those times when out of weakness you stumble and fall, don’t be discouraged and spend time lamenting about failing. Instead, get back up! It’s also important to learn from your mistakes so that you don’t repeat them and then you can change your behavior or the direction you were going. You can also learn from the wrong actions that others have made so that you can avoid making those same mistakes. Ask God for forgiveness and allow His sweet peace to wash over you. Sometimes the hardest person for you to forgive . . . is yourself! Chastising yourself repeatedly won’t undo what was done, so humbly accept God’s forgiveness and go on determined to do better. A mistake that makes you humble is better than an achievement that makes you arrogant. TEXT: James 3:2, Psalm 37:24, Psalm 103:2-5, Micah 7:8
Bible Texts:
James 3:2 NKJV - "For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body."
Psalm 37:24 NKJV - "Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand."
Psalm 103:2-5 NKJV - "Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."
Micah 7:8 NKJV - "Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The LORD will be a light to me."
