Letter from Larry
Wednesday
September 1, 2021
Good Wednesday Morning Everyone:
Back in my heyday, I used to do a lot of public speaking around the
country to audiences in the hopes of motivating them to live their lives
in a positive way to achieve their own success in life. In the next few
days I will share with you some of the stories I used in the talks. I
hope you learn and enjoy them.
THINKING POSITIVE
Back in the early 1900'a. a church bishop was accustomed to paying
an annual visit to a small religious college. On one such visit, the
bishop engaged in an after dinner conversation with the college's
president. The religious leader offered the opinion that the millennium
could not belong in coming since everything about nature had been
discovered, and all possible inventions had been made.
The college president disagreed, stating that he felt the next fifty years
would bring an amazing discoveries and inventions. In his opinion,
human beings would be flying through the skies like birds within a
relatively short time.
"Nonsense!" shouted the bishop. "Flight is reserved for the angels!"
The bishop's name was Wright. He had two sons---Orville and Wilbur!
The stories of most of the truly great achievements of history can
almost always start with the words, "They said it couldn't be done!"
Remember, Winners are like rivers. They find---or make---a deep
channel and follow its course from where they are to where they want
to go. Stand beside a great river sometime and think about how
powerful it is. It can generate electricity, move the earth, and provide
a great setting for great wealth.
Why?
It concentrates all its movement in one direction!
What are you doing with your life regardless of your age? You are
never to old to pursue your dreams: Remember that losers are
known for the projects they start, but winners are remembered
by the projects they complete.
Take a look at these track records:
(1) Henry Ford failed and went broke five times before he finally
succeeded.
(2) Babe Ruth, considered by sports historians to be the greatest athlete
of all time and famous for setting the home run record at the time....
ALSO holds the record for the most strikeouts!!
(3) Grandma Moses who became one of the world's greatest artists,
didn't begin her painting until she was 78 years old.
(4) Eighteen publishers turned down Richard Bach's 10,000 word
story about a "soaring" seagull, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, before
Macillan finally published it in 1970. By 1975 it had sold more than
7 million copies in the US alone.
(5) Bill Gates is now one of the world's wealthiest individuals, but
he didn't earn his fortune in a straight line to success. Gates entered
the entrepreneurial scene with a company called Traf-O-Data, which
aimed to process and analyze the data from traffic tapes (think of it
like an early version of big data). He tried to sell the idea alongside
his business partner, Paul Allen, but the product barely even worked.
It was a complete disaster. However, the failure did not hold Gates
back from exploring new opportunities, and a few years later, he
created his first Microsoft product,
(6) Steve Jobs was fired by his own company. Steve Jobs was an
impressive entrepreneur because of his boundless innovations, but
also because of his emphatic comeback from an almost irrecoverable
failure. Jobs found success in his 20s when Apple became a massive
empire, but when he was 30, Apple's board of directors decided
to fire him.Undaunted by the failure, Jobs founded a new company,
NeXT, which was eventually acquired by Apple. Once back at Apple,
Jobs proved his capacity for greatness by reinventing the company's
image and taking the Apple brand to new heights.
In each of these cases, the winners were like the river...they
dug deep channels and moved in one direction! If they can
do it, so can YOU!
Remember:
You are a WINNER...and WINNER's Never lose
and LOSER's Never WIN!!
May God place His Grace on you and yours and be thankful for
what you have!!
Larry
