What We Don’t Deserve
Someone once said, “Grace is when God gives us what we DON’T deserve and mercy is when God DOESN’T give us what we do deserve.” Oh how true this is! Without God’s grace and mercy–everyone would be lost! David called for God’s mercy quite often. He prayed in Psalm 69:16, “Answer me, Lord, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me.” Of course, everyone desires God’s grace and mercy, and eagerly request it–but how many actually extend God’s compassion to those who are not deserving? When we make a decision that affects someone else–do we hold them up to a higher standard? Do we demand justice? If God demanded “justice,” that would require each of us to pay for our own sins–and everyone would be cast out of heaven for all eternity! Jesus forgave us for our sins and made a way for our salvation through His death on Calvary even though we didn’t deserve it. In Ephesians 4:7 we’re told, “But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.” One thing that God asks us to do–is to love each other and to treat each other as we would want to be treated. Now, that doesn’t mean He wants us to lie down and be a rug that everyone walks over–but it does mean–we should demonstrate His love, grace and mercy toward others. Text: Romans 3:20-24, Ephesians 2:8-9, 2 Peter 1:2, Hebrews 4:16

Bible Texts:
Romans 3:20-24 NKJV - Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV - For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

2 Peter 1:2 NKJV - Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,

Hebrews 4:16 NKJV - Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
