Principal Ohio School for the Blind

Full-Time, Permanent, Exempt

Salary: Depends on Qualifications

Deadline: 06/15/12





Fosters and ensures the education program of the school:
-          Develop and implement policies, programs and goals that reflect high expectations for all students and staff.
-          Ensure that instructional content that is taught is aligned with Ohio's common core standards, VI expanded core curriculum and curriculum priorities in the school.
-          Supervision of educational programming and support services including oversight of lesson plan, IEP, ETR and Transition processes.
-          Directing daily management of the school including developing and building the school schedule and addressing behavioral needs of students.
-          Assist in the coordination of local and statewide assessments.
-          Allocate resources, including technology to support students and school staff.
-          Engage parents and community members in the educational process.

Maintain teaching and support staff job results:
-          Coaching, counseling and evaluating teachers in accordance to OSSB policies and procedures and state requirements.
-          Recruiting, selecting, orienting and training teachers and support staff.
-          Completing performance evaluations and classroom observations.
-          Support staff in planning and implementing research-based professional development.

Maintain and demonstrate professional growth and technical knowledge:
-          Attend educational workshops; reviewing professional publications.
-          Keep abreast of special education policies and procedures
-          Participate in faculty meetings, school committees, educational conferences, and/or professional training


Perform other duties as necessary i.e. representing the superintendent as necessary; attending the Council of School for the Blind and APH meetings.


 Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a minimum of five years successful work experience in educational administration and possess a knowledge of special education rules and regulations; Must maintain valid Ohio educational certification/licensure as a Principal; Visually Impaired licensure requirement may be attained after employment.

 Supplemental Information:

Requires travel throughout State of Ohio & may require overnight stay. (Must be willing & able to secure a valid Ohio Driver's License OR supply your own transportation).  The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to an appointment.  The State will decline to extend a final offer of employment to any applicant with a verified positive test result.  Also, an applicant with a positive test result will not be considered for an position with the State of Ohio for a period of one year.
