Hi Barbara,
I can absolutely say that this happened to someone in our chapter. The person was eventually placed in a shelter which had a separate room for this person's safety.
We had a person in Toledo who had Developmental Disabilities who was at our Battered Women's Shelter.
Lucas County DD did not have any room for her for a couple of months.
The ywca shelter had significant difficulties meeting her needs.
She didn't understand the concept of time, could not use a microwave, could not do laundry, could not shop for herself, had hygiene issues, etc.
I didn't have any room or she would have been with me.
I know all about this case because I knew her from a Church Group.
She came with her sister.
I know about her time at the Shelter because Yvonne and I took her out for outings.
We also met with the Shelter Staff.
The young woman from Church was at the shelter because of abuse perpetrated by a relative.
