[Ohio-talk] Paratransit

Hi,
There are a few reasons why I opted to take paratransit instead of the city
bus. I don't actually "live" in Dayton---I do during the school year of
course, but it's not really a city I'm familiar with and with my school and
work schedules I can't easily go exploring to figure things out. My thought
was that since I'd primarily be on UD's campus, I could just learn the area
around campus really well and use paratransit to get to anywhere else I'd
want to go. This particular trip also had to happen at night if it was
going to happen at all and be 7 miles from my location, which further
complicated matters.
I'm starting to question whether or not paratransit would be reliable in a
practicum situation, even if it were a subscription trip. It took an hour
for the driver to come back for me the second time this weekend, so even if
I were to schedule way in advance for my pick ups and something weird
happened there would be no guarantee I'd make it to my site on time. Since
that counts as a class with my professors supervising and one of the grade
criteria is professionalism including punctuality, I'm thinking that pairing
up with a student who has a car might be the best way to go. I know we
start in pairs anyway so this isn't a big deal for the moment, but it would
have been nice to have an option to get to the place I'm going independently
in case their car wasn't working, or they couldn't go that day, or later on
in senior year when I'll be working alone. . I'll just have to make sure
that schedules line up with the other person.

Kaiti,
Often, paratransit is not reliable. Can you take the city bus instead?
I used to take paratransit to work and it would either get me there too
early or too late. A couple of times, I got home past 9 p.m. after I was
picked up at 7:30, an hour and a half after my work tour ended. I decided
to take the city bus, even though it required three transfers. At least, I
got to work on time, and I was able to catch the first bus after my shift
ended.
