Federationists,

Please forward to anyone you think could benefit from membership in
the Ohio Association of Blind Students, particularly students from
areas other than Cincinnati.

Do you know a blind student who lives and/or studies in the state of
Ohio, and is aged 13 years or older? Do you know such a student who
is preparing to transition from middle school to high school, from
high school to college or employment, or who has questions about
gaining accommodations, advocating for their needs, or independent
living skills? Are they seeking to network with other blind students
while learning more about the National Federation of the Blind?

If so, then the new year is a perfect time to join the Ohio
Association of Blind Students. Known as OABS for short, the Ohio
Association of Blind Students seeks to improve educational
opportunities and the general welfare of blind students in Ohio, and
across the country through the initiatives of the National Federation
of the Blind and the National Association of Blind Students. As the
oldest of the NFB's divisions, the National Association of Blind
Students, and OABS and its other state affiliates in turn, provides
opportunities to network, ask questions of other blind students, and
to gain leadership skills through participation in a dynamic group of
young Federationists who know living the life they want is possible.
Members in OABS participate in monthly conference calls on various
topics, meet face-to-face at the convention of the National Federation
of the Blind of Ohio, and have opportunities for scholarships
presented at the state and national levels, leadership programs in the
NFB, and can attend events including the organization's National
Convention along with other students and members from the Ohio
affiliate.

2015 is an exciting time to join OABS. The finishing touches are
being put on our web site, we are producing a video membership
brochure, and have several other exciting projects in the works. We
hope that you'll join us, and contribute your experiences and ideas
while learning what OABS is all about.

To learn more about OABS and get in touch with the board, please send
an email to oabs.nfb at gmail.com. You can also subscribe to our list
serve by sending an email to oabs at nfbnet.org, with "subscribe" in the
subject line. Annual dues are $5 and are payable to the Ohio
Association of Blind Students via check. Other options of payment may
also be available.
