I am reaching out to them to get a speaker.
We will also get the answer to the complaint question. R

aThis is an interesting idea, but here is what Lou Anne Blake responded to me yesterday:

Hi Barbara,

Thanks so much for passing this along to me. Unfortunately, I don’t think things will improve much until blind voters start filing complains with their Secretary of State’s office when they are not able to vote privately and independently for any reason. Complaints filed with a state’s Secretary of State’s office must be reported to the US Department of Justice, so when a blind voter files a complaint because she was not able to vote privately and independently she usually gets a response! We are working to raise the awareness about the filing of complaints among our members.

Best regards,

Lou Ann

I don’t know at the moment how we file complaints with the secretary of state, but I think we should find out. Maybe we should look into getting a representative from that office to present at the convention and then begin by telling him or her our stories of problems. Richard’s experience is outrageous. Hay, we are already in the mode of suing the secretary of state.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
