The convention will start Friday November 11th an end Sunday November 13

August 13 2016

The work of the federation is rewarding, tedious and time consuming. I am
honored to carry out the tasks. In an effort to meet all our objectives this
may not be publish as much as previously done, but I will do as much as I
can do to keep you updated and informed.

The last few weeks have been challenging I would like to thank our Vice
president Sherry Albers and Rachel Kuntz that continues to provide their
time and effort to make our Affiliate great. It is very important and
appropriate to acknowledge those that go over and above the call of duty. I
know that there are others in our organization that are providing their
expertise and knowledge for our cause, such as Walter, he is administrating
the News line program, Helping those that experience problems accessing the
program and has uploaded the Spring Buckeye Bulletin as well and we have put
up the news letter from the National office "Imanginneering our Future."
Several of us are working with OOD and ACBO to put together training for the
OOD staff which will be held on August 30th. We hope to point out some
serious issues as well as bring awareness to new concerns. The issue of
rehabilitation is an objective that we must attend to as an organization in
Ohio. we have the initiative to demand professional, appropriate and
complete service from the agencies that are tasked by the state of Ohio to
provide such services.

The national convention was a very wonderful event again this year. Those
that attended came back inspired and ready to work to build the Federation.
To those members that went thanks for all of your very hard work.

Sherry was the coordinator of the BELL program this year. Thank you Sherry
for implementing a successful program. Please look for Sherry's article in
the Buckeye Bulletin in the fall.

4.
Please provide the information for any activities that your chapter and/or
division are planning. We want to make sure that we support you in every way
we can.

We are presently working on the convention arrangements. It is my hope to
have the preregistration process underway shortly. We are open to
suggestions for what you would like at your convention. Please contact me
at:

I request that you provide your comments for the convention directly to me
and not on the Ohio talk mailing list. We have a group of members that are
working on this year's 70th state convention. I think you will be very
happy to find out that many people have reached out to me because they
want to be involved. Please start now by asking for door prizes and sponsors
for the convention. In an event such as this, we can always use cash; as
well, Shelbi is coordinating the gift cards from our script program, which
would benefit our organization in more than one way. Macy is chairing a
small ad hoc committee to obtain vendors that will provide their products
and services at our convention. If you know of vendors that may want to
attend our convention, please contact Macy at:

There is so much more that I could share, but I will wait until the next
update, until then, let's work together to ensure a successful convention
and exemplify a strong cohesive organization.

The following message was sent to the Chapter President list from Danielle
Trevino regarding the latest quarterly member engagement effort:

Dear Federation Family:
Cesar Chavez said, "The people who give you their food give you their
heart."
There is still plenty of time left this quarter to organize a picnic, get
together at a restaurant, put together a potluck, or even just grab some
coffee with your chapter of the National Federation of the Blind.
This would be the ideal setting for members to get to know each other
outside of a regular meeting, and it is the perfect ice breaker to make new
members or potential members feel welcome. After all, who has more heart
than the Federation?
If you need some inspiration, the recipes found in the Braille Monitor
<https://nfb.org/braille-monitor> are a great place to start.
President Riccobono often tells us that one of our goals is to love people
into the Federation. What better way to do that than over a good meal?
As always, the Independence Market has brochures, alphabet cards, and Kernel
Books available for you to order for your events. Do not forget, Meet the
Blind Month is in October. We are here to support you in your MTBM
activities. For tips on planning a successful event, check out our YouTube
video <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9CYY-eun28> . The official hashtag
for this year will be #MTBM16.
We love to hear what you're doing in your community! Let us know on
Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram; be sure to follow the Federation on
Facebook by searching for "National Federation of the Blind." On Twitter and
Instagram, our handle is @NFB_Voice. Of course, you can always send photos
(with descriptions) of your events and chapter meetings to me at
dtrevino at nfb.org as well.
Let's go build the Federation!
