Salutations Federationists, I hope this note finds you all well.
The below message comes to us from Katie Leinum and It says:
The National Federation of the Blind of Illinois Presents a Seminar for
Students:
CURRICULUM AND BEYOND
Saturday, April 16, 2016, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
Chicago Midway Marriott.
On Saturday, April 16, 2016, the National Federation of the
Blind of Illinois returns with our annual Spring Seminars (for Students plus
for Parents) at the Chicago Marriott-Midway, 6520 S. Cicero Ave., Chicago,
IL. 60638. These will be day-long events of meetings and activities for
blind/visually-impaired students as well as their parents or TVI's
(teachers).
The student seminar, from our Illinois Association of Blind
Students and other Midwest student divisions, is for anyone 13 or older who
is a student or interested in student issues. Our keynote speaker is
Carlton Walker, Manager of Braille Education Programs at the NFB Jernigan
Institute in Baltimore. We also have an engaging student-panel on the topic
of transition. Other topics of the day include financing college, the
social life of college, extracurricular activities, mastering blindness
skills and much more. Attendees can also participate in an adaptive fitness
segment by Yarina Liston, certified instructor of yoga, dance and judo who
also teaches at Loyola University. Also, please join us on Friday evening,
April 15th, for Giordano's pizza, included in the cost of the seminar.
Cost is only $30 for parents' seminar, or $15 for student
seminar, and $10 for children 3 to 12, (which includes boxed lunch). Please
register online no later than March 31, 2016, at NFBofIllinois.org.
If you would like to stay overnight, The Chicago Marriott
Midway is offering the discount rate of $109 per night to seminar attendees.
To take advantage of this, please book no later than March 31st by calling
the hotel at 708-594-5500, and ask for the National Federation of the Blind
