The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back

Thank you for preregistering for the 2017 National Convention of the National Federation of the Blind. Enclosed is some information we think you will find useful as your plan your week in Orlando.

The convention agenda is now available. You can view it from the convention page on the NFB website at nfb.org/convention <https://nfb.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=8729&qid=1845402> .

When you arrive in Orlando, you may pick up your preregistration packet in Sebastian Ballroom Pre-function area, Level 1, in the area designated "Preregistration," beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11; at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12; and at other times as listed throughout the week.

You Are Cordially Invited

All convention attendees are invited by Mark and Melissa Riccobono to visit the Presidential Suite (13217). The suite will be open during much of the convention. Please stop by the suite to schedule a meeting with the President. You are also welcome to visit Dr. Maurer’s Suite (13216), pending his availability. And please take a moment to visit the Host Affiliates’ Suite (11230). The affiliates’ suite is being hosted by the NFB of Arizona, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Tennessee, and our National Association of Blind Students. In addition to light refreshments, opportunities will be available to win some themed gifts from our host affiliates.

Feedback needed from NFB Members

Greyhound

Are you traveling to national convention via Greyhound this year? Attorney Timothy Elder of TRE Legal Practice is gathering information from blind individuals who use screen access software and who are unable to book travel with Greyhound’s mobile apps or website because of accessibility barriers or who have been charged convenience fees for booking tickets over the telephone. The NFB’s recently filed suit against Greyhound may be certified as a class action and your feedback is critical. Please contact Tim at telder at trelegal.com <mailto:telder at trelegal.com> to alert him to your experience.

SeaWorld

The NFB is gathering information regarding equal access for the blind at SeaWorld Entertainment properties. If you visit SeaWorld, Aquatica, Discovery Cove, or any other SeaWorld Entertainment property during your time in Orlando and are denied access to any services, facilities, goods, or privileges because of your blindness, please contact Valerie Yingling at vyingling at nfb.org <mailto:vyingling at nfb.org> or (410) 659-9314, extension 2440.

Recruiting Feedback from Individuals with Service Animals who Travel via Lyft or Uber

As you travel with your service animal to and from the Rosen Shingle Creek via Lyft or Uber, make sure to record your experience in the NFB’s Rideshare Testing online questionnaire: nfb.org/rideshare-test <https://nfb.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=8760&qid=1846150> . As a part of the NFB’s settlement agreements with Uber and Lyft, the NFB is conducting testing to assess how successfully both companies are implementing new policies and procedures regarding drivers’ obligations to transport riders with service animals. We are seeking feedback regarding positive and negative rideshare experiences; please take time to report your experience <https://nfb.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=8760&qid=1846150> .

The Convention Quest

In Braille, take the word for a female monarch, move two dots and you will have your watchword. If you enjoy puzzles, brain teasers, trivia, popping up in random locations to sing Federation songs, and having a good time with your friends, then this is for you! You will face many challenges, but the rewards are plentiful. To join in this unique and interactive experience, once you arrive at convention, please visit quest.nfb.org <https://nfb.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=8761&qid=1846150> . For more information on how to play, please send an email to quest at nfb.org <mailto:quest at nfb.org?subject=QUEST> , or call (203) 364-4263.
