This workshop will provide an overview of the three main categories of 
optical character recognition available to the blind community today. The 
technology 
 
behind OCR will be briefly explained followed by a demonstration of three 
representative examples of scanning solutions. A stand-alone device, the 
SARA 
 
CE, a scanning software program, Kurzweill 1000, and several mobile 
scanning apps including KNFB Reader and Office Lens will be discussed and 
demonstrated.
