Greetings Everyone,

Yes this forwarded email describes an awesome chance to learn about some blind sports during the first weekend in May in Columbus. However my main reason for sending this is to direct your attention towards the nutritional and health portion of the newsletter from USABA. With diabetes and various heart related conditions affecting the lives of our fellow Veterans, it is important we know some basics on constructing balanced diets. USABA will start hosting a series of these videos on their Youtube channel. These topics on health, diet, and nutrition can be a great topic for your regional group meetings, newsletters, VIST support groups, and similar types of activities. I do hope each of you at least consider this topic before simply discarding this message.

Columbus (OH) Blind Sports Weekend, 

May 3-5

USABA invites adult athletes and coaches to apply for the upcoming Blind Sports Weekend in Columbus, Ohio, May 3-5. Saturday, May 4, includes a full-day goalball clinic hosted by U.S. Paralympic National Team coaches and players. An introduction to blind soccer will be held on Sunday, May 5. The event is free of charge to attend and room/board will be covered for accepted applicants. USABA Nutritional Videos to Help in Training Goals 

USABA has developed a series of nutritional videos with registered dietician/nutritionist Kate Davis to aid our members in achieving their training and overall health goals. A Look Back at the Anthem Winter Ski Festival in Colorado 

Now in its 12th year, and 10th year with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado as a proud sponsor, the Winter Ski Festival for blind and visually impaired athletes took place the first weekend in March. Powerlifting Nationals Dates Announced

Brown, Avery & Snyder Join Team Toyota 

In advance of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Team Toyota has teamed with 17 athletes, including Paralympic track and field athlete David Brown, his guide runner Jerome Avery, and paratriathlete Brad Snyder. Blake Steinecke

Ice Hockey

Blake Steinecke became legally blind at the age of 16, but it didn't stop him from competing in the sport he grew up loving...ice hockey.  Today, Blake is a member of the U.S. blind ice hockey team, balancing training with his studies as a second-year business administration student at Cal State San Marcos.

"It's funny when life takes a turn. You think the sport you love got taken away, but in a way it turned out for the better and now you're wearing your country's letters. It's a pretty cool feeling," says Steinecke.
