Good morning, my apologies for my delay in responding, I decided to have an unplugged weekend this past weekend. I am not familiar with disability rights Ohio‘s position on intermediate care facilities, but they are places where individuals are housed when the family is unable or unwilling to provide the independent living supports and individual needs to subsist in every day life. Typically these are group home settings where the care is covered by the Social Security check that an individual receives. Individuals are restricted from where they can go, what they can eat, and when they are to sleep, and often do not get to engage in other regular activities. They are given a small stipend from the money they receive per month, typically it is usually around $50 or less. Of course there may be some individuals who need this type of assistance, but generally individuals end up staying there permanently. Hope this answers your question.

Last I was told there were several stacks of petitions that had been laid on the table in the hearing room. Individuals that are supporting this thus far appear to be parents who want to see their children live in intermediate care facilities and we know that this is less than independent and for many of these individuals it is not necessary. It is critical that our legislature hears our position on this. Like Mike I am willing to assist in anyway I can. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you need to. Either way it is paramount that your voices be heard on this issue.
