On October 6, 1964 Congress authorized the president to proclaim October 15 of each year as “White Cane Safety Day.” Over the past 56 years, the name may have changed a couple of times to ultimately become “Blind Americans Equality Day,” but the goal of celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of blind Americans remains the same.

Please be sure to read this year’s Presidential Proclamation on Blind Americans Equality Day <https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-blind-americans-equality-day-2020/>.
