These are monthly calls with the intent to allow people to bring up problems that they are having and receive suggestions for coping with them. If it sounds as if further discussion with a person who has knowledge would help, we make arrangements for someone to call and offer support. We are not rehab teachers, and our efforts are aimed at providing options and hope drawn from the fact that other people are managing the things that seem overwhelming to a newly blind person.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise expectations for blind people because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and their dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.

>> I am remiss in getting this announcement out, so please pay attention to it. Sunday, October 18, at 7:00 pm, the NFB of Ohio Senior Division will hold its monthly Sharing Solutions call. This is on the conference call line, not Zoom. This month people are asked to bring with them the contact information for any resources they have found useful. It may be medical gadgets they like or communications tools or anything else that you find helfful and can pass along to help others with vision loss. You will also have a chance to raise your problems or frustrations in coping with blindness. You can tell that this will be a free-style conversation. We will also talk about the up-coming convention and also Meet the Blind Month, which is going on right now. What can we do to spread the word about the NFB and the ways we are changing what it means to be blind?
>>
>> By the way, if you are registered for the state convention and are a member of a local chapter or division but have not yet enrolled to vote at the convention, you must do so before noon on Sunday. You have to contact your chapter or division president to get the link to enroll. If you don’t have a computer, your president can help you to enroll. All you need to know is the phone number you will use to call in or text your vote. This may seem like a pain in the neck, but we have to be sure that only members who are registered and are eligible toot do in fact vote in the election and for or against resolutions.
>>
>> I will send out a reminder of the Sunday night call this weekend. The call-in number is our standard one: 712-775-7031, access code 240281423.
