The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio cordially invites you to a workshop, "Optic Nerve Hypoplasia: Building the Federation among a unique population of the Blind". This workshop will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. in the Ohio Affiliate Zoom Room. Please see link below.

This workshop will be conducted by Christopher Sabine, secretary of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio, Cincinnati Chapter, and member of the Ohio Affiliate Board of Directors. Mr. Sabine is President and Founder of ONH Consulting, the only firm providing educational and community referrals to families with children and adults with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia operated by a Blind adult with this condition. By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to do the following:


  *   Give a definition of Optic Nerve Hypoplasia and outline at least three ways in which the condition can affect a child's development other than vision.
  *   Outline at least three significant medical conditions commonly experienced by children and adults with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia and potential accommodations or strategies to thrive with them in a classroom or community setting.
  *   Describe at least three psychosocial and behavioral characteristics that children and adults with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia often demonstrate.
  *   Outline at least five strategies to foster the development of children with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia and discuss how programs and activities of the National Federation of the Blind can help children and adults with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia live the lives they want.

Participants will have the opportunity to win a $100 Amazon gift card by answering a question related to a piece of writing on the ONH Consulting web site.

  *   6:00 to 6:05- Introductions
  *   6:05 to 6:15- What is Optic Nerve Hypoplasia: The three-legged stool and a spectrum.
  *   6:15 to 6:35- Behavioral and psycho-social characteristics
  *   6:35 to 6:45- Educational and Developmental Strategies
  *   6:45 to 6:55- Question and Answer
  *   6:55 to 7:00- Conclusion and Contest Details.
