People in attendance

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
Rachel opened the meeting by leading the National Federation of the Blind pledge.

Minute Meeting:
The One

Minute Meeting was read by Rachel’s daughter, w
ho did an excellent job. Previous minutes were not available however were approved.Previous Minutes were not read due to the secretary’s lack of access to appropriate
technology.
Secretary Technology Rachel led a discussion and made a motion to purchase a laptop or iPad for secretar
ial use
through Computers for the Blind. This motion was seconded by Veronica. A vote was taken, and the motion passed.
Guest
Guest speaker Tristan from the Minnesota Center for the Blind shared personal strategies
for staying motivated, including maintaining long
-
term, weekly, and d
aily goal lists to
provide structure, productivity, and accountability. Members found his suggestions helpful
and applicable to their own lives.
Tristan also shared that the Minnesota Center for the Blind is preparing to reopen, creating
new training oppor
tunities. The chapter thanked Tristan for attending and sharing his
insights.
Elections for the capital chapter were held for 2026:
Lynn nominated Rachel for President. Vote taken; Rachel was elected President.
Rachel nominated Veronica for Vice President. Vote taken; Veronica was elected
Vice
President.
Rachel nominated Jason for Treasurer. Vote taken; Jason was elected Treasurer.
Rachel nominated Carole Cruise for Secretary. Vote taken; Carole Cruise was elected
Secretary.
New business
Announcements and Reports:
It was announced that the mother of C
arlton Cook Walker has passed away. The chapter
extended condolences to Carlton and her family and thanked Carlton for her years of service
as Treasurer of the Capital Area Chapter.
The Lions Club will be holding a district meeting; the date will be announ
ced.
The PA/Delaware Conference will be held at the Best Western Hotel on April 16. Veronica
proposed that the Capital Area Chapter obtain an exhibit table on April 16.
State Report:
Lynn reported that she will be traveling to Washington, D
.C. for the Washington Seminar.
The Great Gathering will be held Monday at 5:00 p.m. Eleven members from the affiliate are
attending, with meetings scheduled with seven Pennsylvania members of Congress and two
U.S. Senators.
Important Announcement:
A hear
ing will be held on February 9 at 2:15 p.m. at the Cumberland County Courthouse
regarding the return of Tim and Rebecca McCarthy’s four sons. A letter
-
writing campaign
will be held February 2, 2026, to support reunification.
Additional Announcements:
The
Lions Club Statewide Conference will be held May 14
–
16, 2026.
Members may apply to serve on the council via the Pennsylvania Rehabilitation website.
The Pennsylvania State Convention will be held November 5
–
8 at the Hershey Lodge.
The National Federation o
f the Blind National Convention will be held in Austin, Texas.
First
-
time attendees may apply for a Jernigan Scholarship.
Adjournment:
Rachel made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was approved by vote.
