[Perform-talk] Audio description

Also, while we'd all love to get paid for acting, let's not forget
community theater. among the generalpublic, most people who love to act
don't get paid for it. By participating in community theater, they have
a lot of fun and provide affordable and often high-quality productions.
But community theater also brings other issues: The directors aren't
professional and may not feel confident enough to work with a blind
actor. Also, the set often isn't built until the last minute, and so
it's not possible to get a lot of time acclimating to it. Not only that,
often actors are expected to help out in building the set. I know many
Federationists have had training in power tools, but if you haven't been
to one of the Centers, it may be difficult to find such training. So
there's the whole issue of how to participate in this work and in strike
-- how to insist on your ability to help out while not getting in the
way by doing so.

And then of course there's the ever-loving audition. A lot of directors
seem to judge on "chemistry", which seems to mean the ability of actors
to click immediately. A lot of this seems to be accomplished by looking
at each other. It could be done by *talking* to each other, provided
there's time to do so. Would it be reasonable to ask for extra time with
one's scene partner before going up to audition? I make sure to be
familiar with all of the sides before I get there, but often I get a
scene partner who's reading the side for the first time. Forget trying
to coordinate under those circumstances!

As you can see, I've thought a lot about these things too!

Kaiti, that Bach musical sounds very fun and creative!
